How do I say this nicely?

I posted a while back about wanting a certain type of house plant on Freecycle.

Well, a lady wrote me back and told me that she had some she’d be happy to give me. We go back and forth for a couple of days before she gives me her actual address.

Well, when I get the address, I ask DH where it is, because it’s a part of town that I wasn’t familiar with. He said “There’s NO WAY I’m letting you go down there for ANYTHING.” Apparently, this is the part of town where the crack houses and streetwalkers are. Now I have to figure out how to tell this lady “nicely” that I’m not coming.

“Airplane plant” isn’t code for any kind of drug, is it?

that's too bad you can't go.

your dh is right, it probably isn't safe, but she could be that one innocent person living there cuz it is all she can afford.. stuck.

never had any airplane plant in my lifetime

She could be a wonderful woman, but yeah.. you probably shouldn't go. How about...um..lying?
My husband surprised me with one last night?

Just ask her if you can meet at a gas station in between or something like that. If she says no, you might say with gas prices etc. you just can't afford going there right now. Or if that doesn't work, tell her you just got some from a friend of yours who surprised you last night.

I'm with Eva on this one- just tell her that you aren't familiar with that area and ask if there is somewhere else that you and her can meet ( I'd still have Dh go with you) Good luck!
