The behavioral folks have reccommended melatonin for my dd to help her sleep since she barely sleeps at all. However what I read here is discouraging. What do you know about it? How common are the side effects?

This article seems a lot more positive. That's the problem with the internet

I was going to say is there like a dosing formula. Start with a really small dose and see how that works first. I hope it helps her and you get some sleep.

The information I have found is confusing. The psychatrist reccommended I call our family dr who knows dd really well. He he's been taking care of her since the day she was born. In fact, he took care of her right after she was born. I've been charting her sleep and she's getting actually even less sleep than we thought she was.

I've had life long sleep hygiene problems, so maybe it is genetic. I won't be trying this until I am no longer breastfeeding. Fortunately, my baby daughter does not have this problem. Thank goodness! I couldn't handle two sleepless kids!

Logan takes it. A friend recomended it and I check with the ped and she said its herbal and something your body produces. We started with half a pill crushed and are up to 1 pill crushed. He likes it in yougurt. It doesnt know him out just enough to calm him and help him sleep. The alternative is sleeping meds and I refuse to do that to him.

So do we, Becky. I'm not happy with Benadryl either.

I have heard of people using it in the past with good results.....your body does already produce it, so you are not putting an unwanted chemical into the body (which is what no one wants to have to do to their children.) I know that Kate does not get much sleep, so if its going to help her then it may be worth looking into.
