As much as I despise Homeowner Associations (especially ours), it IS an all-adult community and always has been. Also, the grandparents have been living there with the child for three years ... it's not as if it had only been a month or so.

They say the house hasn't sold, but I have to wonder how long it's been on the market? Surely not the entire three years.

I think it sucks that it comes down to that, and I definitely feel for the grandparents, but you have to consider the fact that they knew it was an all adult community all along and they were knowingly violating the rules.

Yeah, but I'm of the opinion that family comes first - before any crappy HA !

I understand that, but if they don't enforce all the rules, what stops somebody from suing that they were fined for not mowing their yard (maybe they were too sick) or for that broken down car sitting in the street in front of their house (maybe they didn't have the money to fix it AND feed their family).

I agree that it sucks, but we have lots of those "all adult" communities around here and I guess I'm just surprised that they even tried to keep her there all these years. The problem is that if they allow her to stay there, then what about the next family? Pretty soon, there will be kids all over the place and that will change the "niche" of the community.

I agree the rules should be enforced but it should have happened a long time ago with a notice given to the Grandparents about how long they have to make other arrangements or sell their house. To let them go 3 years and then ban together to get the family kicked out is ridiculous. Their house has been on the market for quite a while considering they lowered the price 6 months ago so they are trying...

It's interesting that no where is it mentioned that the child is actually bothering anyone. It appears she's minding her own business at her grandparents' house. I don't see why they can't cut this family some slack. It's not like they wanted their daughter to be a drugged out loser who can't take care of her own kid.
