How long do I wait for an answer?

I asked my MIL if my sil (whom is ttc) would like me to save the clothes Cara has outgrown. The thing is my bil is a CEO of a large company with 900 employees under him. I imagine they can certainlly afford to buy all new clothes for the baby, but since they are family, I am offering them the clothes first. So how long do I wait for an answer? Right now they are sitting on Cara's dresser and I am fighting keeping Kate out of them. I want them in storage or out of my house.

Otherwise, I'm giving them to a local charity for low income families. My dd barely wore these things and it would be a shame for them not to be used.

BTW, I have a brand new Christining Dress, never been worn on it's originial hanger with the tags still on it. Someone sent this to me. I'm not sure why since we are atheists. I have about as much use for this as a pig does for a wedding gown. But it's very pretty, and I'd be happy to send it to someone here who needs one, but cannot afford it.

I would say go ahead and seal everything up in boxes, and put them into storage. If you haven't heard she wants them in I'd say 3 months (maybe longer if you find out she's pregnant before that), donate them.

As for the christening gown, if no one here needs/wants it, and you can't return it somewhere, consider eBaying it - those things do sell, and you could use the money to buy and outfit or two that Cara needs.

I don't do the ebay thing, so if no one here wants it, I'll just give it to charity. I'm sure there is someone out there with tears in her eyes about a christening dress, she can't afford that would appreciate it.

I'd box it all up and send her an email stating that you went through Cara's things and have (whatever you have). Let her know you have plans to drop it off at Goodwill on a certain date but wanted to make sure she didn't want any of it first. That way she knows exactly how long it will be sitting around and when will be too late.

Good answer Elaine. That makes it sound very nice but gives a finite time frame before you drop the stuff off for someone else. If she doesn't respond then it's her fault.

Do what Elaine says. Box it up and donate it.

It's not Goodwill. It's a local charity. WIC, Right from the Start and other gov't organizations refer people to this charity to get clothes for their kids. They charge 25 cents an item. I think it's a gov't sponsored organization.

I'd give a week or two - Depending on how oftern she checks her mail. By then she would know if she wants it or not.
