I have held my children on my lap. I would NEVER EVER put my child on the floor - ESPECIALLY if they were prediciting a crash landing! That is from 1989 though too. And honestly I highly doubt they suggest you put your child on the floor anymore.
Actually, I think they suggest (if they can get you to) to fly with your child in their carseat. The last time I looked it up (admittedly that was about 3 years ago) that is what I found.
Right they suggest it - but it's not manditory. Any child under two can fly on a lap. I'd prefer my child in a car seat - but my hubby is one who won't spend the extra $$ for a seat.
They do still suggest putting your lap child on the floor during a crash. Personally I WOULD NEVER fly with out Gabe in a car seat. I wouldn't put Gabe in a car without a seat and I wouldn't take him on a plane without one either. IMO it's ridiculous that airlines don't require everyone to be in a seat anyhow.
I've held Isaiah on my lap three times during a flight. I will never do that again with any of my children. They will get tehre own seat with a carseat! I don't evnt hink i will feel safe flying again. Thats really awful. I know if a flight attendant would have told me to put my kid on the floor I would have said HELL NO and held on to him for dear life!
I know what you mean. It's just that there is no way you can physically hold on to a child during a crash. The child becomes a projectile just like any other unrestrained object. Planes require the coffee pot and luggage to be restrained during a flight but not the most precious of cargo our children? It's ridiculous. Our children are worth so much more then the lousy 200 bucks for the ticket.
Yeah I'm just saying I would rather have him in my arms than on the floor. Next time I fly I plan on buying him his own seat. I didn't before because I was never aware of dangers like that. Call me naive but it's true.
all we can go by is what we know. As long as we always strive to be better that's what matters. You know now and it might make the difference someday. Don't beat yourself up over something that happened in the past that you can't change.
