What is your stand on this present media circus?

If you are gonna call ONE person on saying "inappropriate" things, then call EVERYONE on it..... irregardless of race, sex, creed, religion, sexual orientation..l... etc.

If you are gonna make a stink about Don Imus's STUPID comment, then hold EVERYONE to these standards. NO MORE DOUBLE STANDARDS.

And for Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to be the moral compass is really my favorite part. Imus is an equal opportunity insulter, he's nasty to everyone....

So true it's not like this is the first time he's been nasty. He hates everyone equally.

I agree with Kim about the double standards. There's a ton of that going on and it's ridiculous.

Well, here's my 2 cents worth ... I'm surprised to see that thus far, most are pretty much saying the same thing.

The guy is an idiot. He made a racist/sexist remark. Big deal. Don't listen to him anymore. Boycott his station. Whatever. He's a shock jock and he did his job ... shocked everyone listening.

Was it right? I don't think so. But it's his right to say that. If the station chooses to fire him, then so be it ... that is THEIR right.

But for Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to get involved is just a crock. Why do these two show up whenever there is smoke? By the time they are finished, there are huge, leaping flames. It disturbs me greatly to see them spending so many resources on an incident such as this when there are children starving to death right in their hometowns. Why not spend their resources on saving them instead of demanding some idiot DJ be fired?

There are always going to be racists ... that can't be stopped. However, I personally think that drawing this type of media attention to an incident like this only makes it worse.

I haven't been keeping track of it. I had no idea who Don Imus was before this incident and thankfully, he's still just a guy with bad hair to me.

If the FCC and his station don't have a problem with him, then he should not be fired. However, if he costing the station lots of money in lost revenue and FCC fines, I would fire him if I were the station manager.

If Imus is fired, then I feel that the country as a whole should also boycott appearances
by Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and 99% of the Gangsta-style rappers/groups. What they say is not any less offensive than what Imus said - it's just done/performed in a different context/venue.

( and no, I am NOT defending Imus - he's been a cretin for years and will contine to be so! )

I'm with Lenora. I didn't know who he was before this. And I still don't know anything about him or much about what happened. He's just a guy with bad hair to me.

For Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to be the moral standards they're trying to hold him to... Well, excuse me while I ... I don't think there's anything moral about these two at all.

I'm clueless. This is the first I've heard of him and this incident. I don't even know what he said so I can't really comment other than by saying If you don't want to hear what a DJ has to say, don't turn on his program.

He called some women's basketball team a bunch of "nappy headed ho's".

Stupid comment really, but even dumber the media attention that it is getting.

Imus to go

I know this thread has been dead for a while but I am a new member and love a good debate. I read through some of the other posts and thought this one was pretty controversial seeing as there seems to be so many people with the same views I wanted to add my own.

I do agree to everyon ehas the right to free speech however it should not impede on their right as a citizen of the United States. When you get personal then it becomes an attack. If Don Imus would have kept it general and to a particular gorup of women then maybe it could have been lte go. When a person calls women bs and hos then it is not directed at any one person inparticular and only when it applies to you should a person take offense. If someone calls you mom a b or ho then it is offensive. That's how I feel. Second I do not agree with musicians calling women out of their name and that is being addressed but again is not directed at a particular person.

Also, in regards to Revv Jesse Jackson or Rev. Al Sharpton (give respect to those who have earned it.as some of you so eloquently said) they are the only power figures that come to the aid of African-Americans. As long as they are at the defense of those being attacked I support them. No ONE person is perfect, don't judge less thee be judged.

Lastly, African-Americans cannot be racists, they do not hold enough power.
