Go to sleep, kid!

Not sure what's going on but for the last month or two, Aaron has been waking up at 6:45am instead of his regular time of 7:15am. Also he hasn't wanted to go to sleep until between 9:30 and 10 (and sometimes later than that) when we try to have him in bed by 8:30 or 9pm. What's the deal? I'm not getting any sleep because I like to be able to watch a movie or otherwise dictate my own time and if I do that, I end up staying up too late. Help!

I'm no help I hope he goes back to sleeping soon.

Have you changed the routine at all? Was that daylight savings time it started happening? I dunno....

It usually starts during daylight savings but he usually adjusts to it after a while. This is the worst it has been. As for sleeping, we put him to bed by 8:30 or 9 and he doesn't actually go to sleep until 10pm.

My DD goes to bed at 7:30 and is usually asleep by 8:30. Maybe try putting him to bed earlier? When the time changes again and it's dark at 7:30, my child will be asleep by 8:00 but when it's still light out it takes her a little longer to wind down. Most kids are that way so if you can adjust your nighttime schedule and put him to bed earlier then maybe it'll help. Good luck.

we are facing this problem right now too. the other night, i was frustrated and alone, and i put him to bed att 7. he didn't know it, and he was asleep in minutes, the next night in bed at 8 and he was awake until 930

mornings are a toss up for us too. last night he was up later and didn't wake up until i got him up at 845 to bad we had piano lessons or he coulda slept alot longer

lol anyhow, i say put him to bed earlier if you can, he can't read time, maybe he is missing his bedime and is overtired by the time 830 rolls around?

It seems like the only time he actually goes to bed at a reasonable hour is when I threaten to take toys away if he doesn't go to sleep. I did that tonight and I think he was asleep by 9:30. Otherwise he gets out of bed and puts a bunch of toys in his bed and sits up playing quietly. Last night I caught him running down the hall after the cat. I don't like this phase!

Is he still taking a nap during the day?

I found that with both my older kids, there was a period of time between 3 yrs old and when they started school that they just had more energy and needed less sleep. It was frustrating when I was used to having "my time" after 8:30 but it ended up being a much less stressful routine after I pushed their bedtimes back.

Yes he does, and I'm wondering if that is a factor. No one else in his class naps. I figured most kids his age still napped, but I guess not. I do find that when he naps earlier and less, he goes to bed easy, and when he naps long and late, he is up running around. I just need that hour or so break in the middle of the day so I don't go bonkers.

Re: Go to sleep, kid!

Wow, I came on this forum to find out something for a friend and I'm not surprised to see so many sleepless moms! My daughter rarely slept and I'm a Child Psychologist. I did a personal study involving many of my patients and found an ebook that worked wonders for me and all of them. See my blog for our story. If you're suffering from sleepless nights this is the answer.

Re: Go to sleep, kid!

Dont ask about this to me, i had a very bad experience making my kid go to sleep early, even at 8:30 or 9:00, i have to scold him to sleep early.
