Wedding invites from people you don't know

We got a wedding invitation from a couple that we don't know. We know the groom's parents. Not real well, but we know them through an asssociation at church. I've met the couple once, sort of in passing.

Well, we got this invitation this weekend to their wedding. The wedding's in July, and we'll be moved by that time, so we won't be attending the wedding. But, are we obligated to give a gift? I checked all of the "normal" places to register around here and they aren't registered anywhere.

Any ideas?

Since you don't know them and don't know their parents well, I would just send a card and/or a check or giftcard. I know this may sound selfish, but you are moving and having a baby. Those are expensive things. Since you do not know these people, I wouldn't go to much expense for them. If they are inviting people they barely know or connected with, they are probably having a large wedding and will receive many gifts.

I agree with Lenora. I wouldn't send a gift. Just a congrats card, if anything at all.

what about finding them a nice (but cheap) picture frame? I know that we found some nice ones last year, that after the engraving we had done were only maybe $20 CDN (so that is what....$15-$17US?)

IMO since you don't know the couple, or even the parents really I would just RSVP that you won't attend and send a card. I personally wouldn't buy a gift since you don't know the couple or the parents.

Sounds like they are present hungry.

I would send a card with gods blessing and congrats!!!

I think I'm gonna ask DH what he wants to do. He knows them a little bit better than I do. At least the parents.

I did find out that she has a registry at Bed, Bath & Beyond. So, I may just buy something off of that online if he wants to give them something.

Good luck with your decision. I agree though if you don't really know them I'd just send a card.

You get presents from people who don't even know you just because you send them a wedding invitation?? Heck if I'd know that I'd have invited heaps more people to my wedding Even my relatives that we invited to the wedding and who couldn't come didn't send gifts, and as they all have family's and expenses of their own I sure did not expect them to.

I think a card with your good wishes and congratulations is ample.

I wouldn't buy them anything since you don't really know them.
