Lenora hasn't made the top 1,000 since 1975 and it was 901 then. The year I was born, it was 518. I always wished I had a more popular name. I was sure to give my kids names that were more popular than mine. It's not always easy living with an extremely uncommon name. It's been okay as an adult, but as a kid and teenager, it was hard.

Isn't that funny. I always think people with popular names want UNpopular names for their kids and vise versa.

I've always loved my name. Heck I didn't even go by Mel until I met DH before then I was always Melissa, I never had another nickname.

Having a super unpopular name like mine, always made me stick out. Plus people almost always called me Lenore. I don't mind Nora, but i don't like Lenore. You can't pass by unnoticed in a crowd with an unpopular name. There were many times I wished my name was Julie or something popular. Besides, Lenoras never get to be prom queen or cheerleader like Julies and Lisas do. Those were the two most popular names in my state the year I was born. As an adult it's not so bad. Besides, Lenora is gaining popularity. I've seen it in books and movies recently. It's been popular in literature and poetry for a long time.

My name was somewhere in the 500's the year I was born and is 700-something now. I've never met another young Elaine... they've always been a good 30 years older than me.

Maree has not been in the top 1000 names for the last 42 years

Marie on the other hand was #106 the year I was born and is now #578. I guess that is because everybody use Marie as a second name.

Oh well I prefer being unique

Melanie:

In 1974 it was #51
In 2006 it was #83

So it has moved down about 30 spots in 33 years.
