Infant must have items

One of my girlfriends is expecting and she was asking me for some advice on what you really used and had to have with your infant from newborn to one year. It's been so long since mine were that little that I am having a real time trying to remember everything that we had for the kids. I have compiled a list so far, can anyone help me with anything that I have forgotten?

My list so far.....

diapers (lots)
wipes
formula
clothing
crib
carseat
boppy

bottles (if needed)

This time around that's all I really HAD to have. (the list you mentioned. )

Other fun things would be a playmat, exersaucer for when s/he gets older, swing. Rattles/toys.

bouncy seat (not necessary but very handy)
burp cloths (although other things will work, it's nice to always have something on hand for wiping spit-up off baby's chin)
blankets
diaper bag
(You can almost always get one at the hospital though)
lots and lots of socks

If she'll be breastfeeding she won't need formula. I would also stock up on lots on onesies, those are always handy! I would also get at least 1 hat.

For clothes, I would definitely have these on hand before birth, and then she can figure out what she uses more and go from there...
12 prs. socks
1 - 2 hats
6 - 12 onesies
3 - 4 sleepers
3 - 4 outfits

lol I never use socks.

CAR SEAT!
crib/bassinet
boppy
footie jammies
diapers
wipes
diaper cream
bottle/formula if applicable

I would say that a swing is a MUST have.

a comfy chair is another must in my eyes. for those late night feedings

All those things are good.

A few of those thin flannel receiving blankets - good for the crib in warm areas, because they can keep the chill off without being too warm and fluffy in the summer. They also make good changing pads - I used to fold up two or three in the diaper bag, and once I'd used them, refold them inside out, so I knew they'd been used.

At least one package of cloth diapers - they make good burp cloths, and I still use some for cleaning my glasses and tying up my hair on hot days.

As for onesies, remember if you buy white ones (which are boring, IMO) you can always dye them (I actually tie-dyed a few for DS).

Definitely a pack-n-play or similar playpen. It's so handy to be able to set a crawler/roller/walker down somewhere so you can fold laundry/clean the kitchen/whatever without having to worry about what they've found under your couch.

See I have a pack n play and it's the most useless item I own. I've never used it. Gabe prefers to be in his exersaucer and before that the vibrating papsan thing or swing were his preference.

I wouldn't recommend the PnP unless they're going to travel often and will need it for naps at other people's houses.

Crib sheets/crib bedding.

I also used my swing all the time.

Pacifier, bottles, bottle brush, monitor, gas drops, baby tylenol, boppy, baby spoons, onesies, sleepers.

One thing I thought was great that I got at my shower was these scented diaper diaposal bags. Camoflauged the smell if I couldn't immediately throw away a diaper.

When he got a little older, he was in the Exersaucer a lot, too.

Definitely a STROLLER! I got a combo stroller -- Eddie Bauer w/infant car seat. The seat snapped right into the stroller when the kids were infants and it's still very useful as just a stroller now that the kids are bigger. This was a GODSEND for all of the MD appointments that I had to cart them to, as well as for outings and such. It was great to haul kiddos and had TONS of room to carry their stuff as well, which SAVED my back!

Also another tip.... if she plans on having future children, BUY QUALITY ITEMS. That way they will be around and in decent shape for the next child. We were able to use all of Lauren's gear for Ryan... major $$$$$$$$$ saver.

CONGRATS to your friend!
