Looking for some info on the diagnosis process for Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome in a combat vet. Any suggestions for resources?

Is he still in or already out? If he is in, he needs to call behavioral health.

If he is out, I would think he should call the VA but I'm not totally sure... Any psychiatrist or therapist should be able to diagnosis it and treat him though.

It's all done through the VA from what I understand and through face to face interviews with specialists. They have scales where they rate symptoms and reactions... I'm fairly certain that the screening process is under a lot of scrutiny though ...that they use to judge whether ptsd actually exists in a patient.

The symptoms of PTSD/PTSS are listed in DSM IV and other books like Medical Psychiatry.
One of the scales is the GAF = General Assessment Functioning. You van find this in Internet.

Bob Parrish is the author of a Manual on PTSD. He is a former Sergeant and knows the process from the inside. I think you can find him in Internet too.

Flashbacks and recurrent dreams are the core symptons which should be present for diagnoses of PTSD. All the other mental symptons could also be Depression.

Hope I have given you some hints.
