At what age did you stop worrying about SIDS?

Brenna is 15 months old and has always preferred to sleep with her face up against something... whether it is the side of her car seat, her pack 'n play, or even just a pillow or blanket. It scares the crud out of me and I'm always trying to move her. At 15 months SIDS is really a worry of the past though isn't it?

I'm pretty sure at after a year the drop off is a lot.

Gabe has a blanket he sleeps with all the time. He can roll and sit up so I'm not really worried like I was when he couldn't do either of those.

I think I heard that the worry with SIDS should end when the baby can roll from one side to the other with no problems??

I'm sure at 15 months Brenna is good to go.. she's deleloping her 'style' of sleeping now. Probably how she'll sleep through he childhood.

Dylan ALWAYS has to be covered up with a blanket. No matter how hot is it outside. He's always liked being covered up with good blankets. Not just sheets.. (He gets it from me)

And Austin has always liked the blanet to cover his nose and mouth (i like my ear covered) since he was probably 8-10 months old.

Unexplained death is still called SIDS until 3 years old I thought. BTW it is NOT caused by external suffication like from blankets, pillows, etc. even though those things are not good for infants. I was obsessed wth worry about SIDS whn Zachariah was born. After the stillbirth it just seemed to dwell in the background and I worried constantly. The risk drops significantly after 6 months then even more after a year.

Noah is the same age as Brenna and sleeps with blanket, small pillow and stuffed animal. I worry much less when they can move around by themselves which they can do by this age. Noah was standing in his crib by 7 months.

I was paranoid as well, and heard that during the first year, the risk is highest, so I was relieved when Aaron turned one.

Since neither of my dds were premature (both were way overdue, in fact) and breastfed, I didn't worry about it too much after they could roll over. I barely worried about it all with Cara. I just "knew" that wasn't going to happen to her.

I understand that SIDS is a greater risk for premature babies. Also, breastfeeding reduces the risk of SIDS too, I think. Since Brenna is 15 months old and she was breastfed and on time, I would say the danger of SIDS has passed. However, I would not ignore the "motherly" feelings you are having. I find often these feelings are not to be ignored as they are usually right. Not that anything is going to happen here, just to make yourself feel at ease, I would continue what you are doing.
