Oklahoma Police Kill 5-Year Old Boy While Shooting at Snake

NOBLE, Okla. — A stray bullet fired by a police officer trying to shoot a snake hit and killed a 5-year-old boy fishing at a nearby pond, officials said.

Since when is shooting a snake the best way to kill it? Especially when it's in a tree, and you could (at least in theory) shoot past the tree into blind territory? What an idiot!

If you have a big snake in a tree, you call animal control or equivalent, and have someone wrangle it out of the tree. If it hits the ground, THEN you can shoot at it - you aren't going to shoot THROUGH the ground and accidentally hit someone.

That poor family.

What gets me is that the cop shot at it TWICE, and missed both times. You'd think, after the first shot, he'd thing "Oh, crap, maybe I should clear the perimeter first - I just missed."

Anyone who fires projectile weaponry should ALWAYS check the back of the range.

I couldn't believe it when I heard that on CNN!! How stupid can one be to shoot at a snake?? I agree with you Judy that they should have called animal control and handled it the proper way. I hope they fire that cop. He should have known better.

I felt awful for that grandfather they interviewed on tv.
