School fund raisers

My child started school on Monday and on TUESDAY they sent home the first fund raiser of the year. I was amazed. How early does your child's school start with the fund raisers? I thought they should have at least waited until next week before starting - but I probably would have complained then too.

We started on Tuesday adn Wednesday we got notice of the first one.

Kev's opinion is he'd rather just donate the $$ to the school rather than buying crap.

Yep to sell stuff. It sucks cause EVERYONE around here sells the same crap and everyone sells it at the same time. I just go to immediate family. If they want to fine if not - no biggie. We'd ratehr donate too than spend $7 on a roll of wrapping paper.

Austin starts school on the 5th and I'm sure that by the end of the month they will send something home.

We don't really participate in those kinds of things. The only ones we've done are like the candy bar sales and stuff, not that overpriced crap.

They will however, do fund raisers for sports, because it's getting expensive around here to play sports. It was $50 just for like 6 weeks of T-ball!

We haven't gotten one yet... I'm not sure if they are even going to bother this year with so many of the guys deployed. I know they sell tshirts with the school colors, and ice cream on Fridays.

This was actually was not to sell anything but for the kids (us) to buy books from scholastic. I consider that a fundraiser. I do not let my kids peddle the schools wares and do not buy anything either. I will go to the school fair that they normally have and spend money there as well as donate things and time to the school. My kids are there for an education and not to learn to be salesmen, no matter how badly the schools need the money.

I don't mind book orders either. We let Alyssa pick out a few everytime. (Dad makes her do something around the house to *earn* them though) We get them either monthly or every other month. We have a book fair too.

I'm big on books too and love buying them for my kids. We do go to the school's book fair and I'll buy each of the kids a book and they are free to buy more with their allowance money. Plus I get them books at Christmas and birthdays.

Still, I have a problem with the schools starting any kind of sale so early in the year be it this kind or where they're expected to go out and sell. At least let the kids and the parents get use to the school routine again before starting on us. Plus, we just got through buying all the school supplies and personally I don't like them sending home something else that they know our kids will want to buy so that we have to either fork over more money or be the bad guy for saying no.

Oh we definitley buy the Scholastic books, maybe not every month, but we do that too

Our school does something different and I love it. Greenback night. You can go and buy the dinners and socialize, but they really just want you to donate $$ and then there are no fundraisers during the year. The parents here always pitch in and then the rest of the year we are fundraiser free.

Yep, Thomas came home today with his fundraiser . This year it is magazine subscriptions as well as wrapping paper and kitchen items ( candy too ).
I am sure there will be more as last year we had a pie sale around Thanksgiving time and personalized cards at Christmas time.

Oh, I forgot to add that we do Scholastic also. I really do not mind letting him pick out a book or two. He loves to read and if it keeps him from watching too much tv and video games then I am ALL FOR IT!!!!!! I also pick up sone of the less expensive books to keep for last minute gifts.

Yep - started school on Monday, and came home with fundraiser info AND scholastic book orders on Friday. I'm still buying school supplies, so I'm not real thrilled with the timing. Now .. if the money would go towards getting a freaking bus that could actually make it through a day without breaking down, I might be more open minded.

Another rant ... another day.
