Liz, if you like Sophie Kinsella, you will like Jennifer Weiner. She wrote the book
In Her Shoes, which became a movie.
I just read her book,
Good in Bed and it is GREAT. She has a collection of short stories out, which I am in the process of reading. The title is
The Guy Not Taken, which is the title of one of the short stories in the book. I highly recommend checking out her books.
Another great author is Cassandra King.
The Same Sweet Girls and
The Sunday Wife are two of her books that are great. She has another book out titled
Making Waves, which I just read in June, but it was not as good as her later work. She also has a new book out that I have not read yet, but I will soon--it is
The Queen of Broken Hearts.
I also have been on an Amy Tan kick lately. Her collection of short stories,
The Opposite of Fate, a Book of Musings is SO GOOD! I also recently read her book
The Kitchen God's Wife, which is just fabulous.
You also might want to check out Rebecca Wells--she wrote
Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. (By the way, even if you have seen the movie, you could still read the book--the movie and the book are so different--and the book was excellent--there are parts that are laugh out loud funny.) These same characters can be found in her other books
Ya Yas in Bloom and
Little Altars Everywhere.
Okay, and one last suggestion for you--have you read any of the Sweet Potato Queen books by Jill Connor Browne? These books are great--funny, real, and easy to read.
