So worried....

That I'm gonna fail my Algebra Test this week...
I am struggling with one of the concepts. Now, I'm trying to decide if I should go to the live conference in the morning for extra help, or go volunteer in Tessa's class like I'm scheduled.
I would just blow off the volunteering, but I missed last week because of the car not working. And her teacher really needs the help.

AHHHHHHH, I don't know what to do. We shall see what the morning brings, maybe tonight I will actually start to grasp it.

ok what concept are you having problems with?

Your school is more important then the volunteering IMO so you should do whatever you need to for it before doing something else.

Yeah... I know it is. I am going to skip the volunteering if I haven't figured out my problem with this concept by morning. I just hate to do that to Tessa's teacher.
SO here are two of the problems that I am struggling with...
3x+16(squareroot of x)-12=0

and
3x^3-5x^2=0

I am supposed to solve both of these

The first problem is

3 TIMES X PLUS 16 TIMES the square root of X MINUS 12=0

Writing them out is such a pain in the ass.

The second one I think I've got figured out...if it's done the way I THINK it's done

I think that you start by subtracting the exponents from each other which leaves you with:

3x-5=0

Then 3x=5

Then x=5/3

Which is the same as x= 1 2/3

Ok Now I'm not sure if I did that right, either I should stop looking at it because I did or I suck at math (like this is a surprise).

I asked Mike but he's not having a great day so I don't know if we'll get an answer today.

Mel, actually you got that one partly right the solutions are 0, and 5/3... I was making it too complicated. I do this often.

Now to top it all off, I skipped out on volunteering and the PROF isn't in the live conference like he said he would be until 9. I went in at 830 and he isn't there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!

So here is the problem worked out just to show you how I solved it (which is the correct way according to classmates)...
3x^3-5x^2=0
factor out x^2 which leaves you with
x^2(3x-5)=0
set both parts of the equation equal to 0
x^2=0
x=0
and
3x-5=0
3x=5
x=5/3

Thanks Mel... what you did made me see what I was doing wrong!!!

Ok I'm glad I helped at least.
