Do I take him to the doc?

Zachary woke up this morning complaining that his finger hurt. He held his hand up and showed me and his right index finger is swollen from the middle knuckle up and the whole area around the fingernail is puffy and white... almost looks like a blister but is deeper under the skin. I asked him if he did anything to it yesterday or if it looked like that yesterday and he said no, he just woke up like that. So either he injured it so minorly while playing outside last night that he didn't notice because he was having fun OR he really just woke up with this strange puffy finger.
Is this something I should take him to the doc for? or should I just wait it out and see how it changes over a couple days?

Is it warm to the touch? Or smell funny? If it does either of those things for sure head in.

I agree with Mel! If it's warm to the touch. Also this is the time of year for Hand Foot and Mouth, does he have a fever or anything? Could be a mild case....

Nope, he seems fine otherwise. It's slightly warm... very hard to tell ...but has no odor or anything. I sent him to school and will just see how it looks today when he gets home and go from there.

(holy crap!) I got an email notification for this message. That's the first one I've gotten in MONTHS.

Anyhow....If it wasn't warm or anything I would have given it at least the day to see how it is this afternoon.

Sounds like and infection??? Hopefully the school nurse took a look at it. Kids usually run to me first thing in th emorning with stuff like that and I send them to the nurse (we actually have a nurse practitioner).

BTW--I don't get email notifcations either???? What's up w/ that?

By the time he got home from school this blister had increased in size by quite a bit and was surrounded with redness. It has been determined to be caused by a spider bite. We had it drained but that was around 5:00 and now, not 5 hours later, it has filled back up. We might be in the ER tomorrow if it looks worse.

It doesn't look that bad this morning but I'm definitely going to have to keep an eye on it and watch for signs of infection.

Yep, just keep it clean, dry and monitor it.

They drain that? I'm cringing, it sounds painful. I had one once and it was really painful but htey never did anything for it--of course I never went to the doctor. I hope he's feeling better.
