Should I take him to the doctor?

My 4 year old is not circumsized and has gotten Balanitis once in the past. He seems to have gotten it again, so I put some Lotrimin on it last night and this morning. How his whole penis is red, the foreskin is very red, and he has a discharge. This part has not happened before. Should I take him to the after hours pediatrics or is this something that can wait until Monday? He acts fine except for the fact that "his pee pee hurts."

Redness and discharge are signs of infection so I would definitely plan on taking him in to see the doctor. Since it is the weekend, I personally would try to wait things out until Monday unless the current symptoms were significantly worse or he developed new symptoms such as fever or edema by tomorrow.

I would also apply a antibiotic cream on the area until you take him in. One of my sons used to get infections (none of them arre circumsized) and the crream would sometimes clear it up, other times he would need antibiotics.

If it starts hurting when he urinates (this is going to sound gross) run a shallow bath and explain to him that only while his pee pee hurts, it is ok to pee in the bath. The water should dilate the urine enough so that it doesn't sting.

Oh, sounds great. So Neosporin would be okay? I thought about it but wasn't sure if it would be okay.
