Do you think it would be offensive

to dress as someone from a different culture/religion for Halloween?
Money is so tight this year and I'm worried about being able to afford Halloween costumes... BUT I work at a Goodwill and we got a beautfiul Salwar Kahmeez and matching Dupatta in the other day. It is roughly Haley's size and only $6 for the set. I was thinking of dressing her up in it and doing her hair and makeup in the traditional wedding style for Indian women... dark eyes, rhinestones over her brows, and the gold dangly hairpieces and earrings.
We don't have a big Indian population in this area BUT do you think it would be offensive to them to have children dress as them for Halloween?

I personally don't think it would be offensive... i think it would be cute.. make sure to take pics.

It would not offend me, but then again, I am not Indian. I think she would be pretty in this costume. Sorry---I don't know. I say just go for it, and if you should offend anyone, just let them know that was not your intention.

I think it would be fine and perhaps Honor another culture.

I agree. It's not your intention to disrespect the culture.

I have seen a ton of geisha's, a buckwheat, and a disco dude with a fake afro(none of which were remotely represented by the "correct" culture).....I can't see how it would be a problem.
It's not offensive...it's Halloween ! It's a costume...as long as it's done tastefully and not in a hatefully negative way....if someone doesn't like it TOUGH!

If we have to start being "politically correct" even on Halloween we might as well just quit altogether.

I agree--she can go as an Indian princess or and Indian bride. Maybe she can get another use out if for a school report on India...

Now I just have to convince Haley... she said it sounds like a little kid costume.
