Chewing his sleeve

About 3 weeks ago Zach started this weird habit of chewing the sleeve of his shirt. He comes home with his sleeve sopping wet and has developed a big chapped area on one side of his face.
What is up with that and how can I get him to stop? I don't want to punish him for it but I tried explaining to him that, that was what was making his face hurt and it didn't affect the behavior.

Elaine,

Are his sleeves to long and getting in the way and stressing him out? Jimmy use to chew on his sleeves and I found that buying clothes that were just alittle shorter in arms helped. He also has some behavioral issues and is going for a assesment later this month...try putting shorter sleeved shirts on him until he can get it under control. Good luck...

Sensory issues. Brandon used to do the same thing. Unfortunately he would chew them even in short sleeves. And his blanket/sheet/pillow case at night.

Brandon's also on Adderall (after trying other similiar meds). He hasn't chewed them since started the first med years ago. His bio-dad would do the same thing and for him it was sensory. Try talking to his doctor. An option I looked into for Brandon was getting a length of refridgerator ice maker water tubing. That was suggested to me right about the time I started him on meds, so I ended up not using it.

Connor did it for awhile to. Dont know why he did it, but then he just stopped. I think it might be a nervous thing or sometimes kids just get antsy and need something to do. I know it is frustrating because it wrecked a few of his shirts. He mainly did it in JK and SK.

Duncan has a "chew tube" rubber tube thingy that he loses all the time. But when he's on his meds, he doesn't need it.
