Does your baby enjoy the bath?

Grace doesn't... at all! I've tried different baths, different levels of water, toys, bubbles, and everything else I can think of.
I've gone as far as getting in the tub with her to help keep her calm long enough to wash her but nothing works.
She screams at the top of her lungs and repeatedly attempts to climb over the side of the tub.

That sounds exactly like my two Elaine. They were more than a year old before I found the solution that worked for them. I had bought them a paddling pool and realised that if I filled it with water and let them hop in clothes and all they were fine. If I tried to put them in with bathers on or heaven forbid no clothes on they both went into screaming mode.

I have no idea why they hated being naked in water but they did, right from their very first bath in the maternity annex.

Once I clicked that being in the bath with clothes on was ok for them, I let them bathe with clothes on for a couple of weeks, they didn't get very clean but they got used to being in the bath. Then I would get in with them with my clothes on over a period of maybe a couple of weeks I would say "oh this wet tshirt feels yucky, I'm taking it off" then they would want their 'yucky' wet t-shirt off. It literally only took a couple of weeks to get them happy being naked in the tub, then they would get naked before they got in the tub and never looked back but that first year was a killer.

Greg always loved having a bath, I have no idea why the other two didn't

I don't know if the same thing will work for Grace but it may be worth a try. It is the wrong time of the year for an outdoor paddling pool to start with but maybe a baby bath in front of the heater for her to play in fully clothed might work. It is going to create a lot of wet clothes but you have to wash clothes anyway right?

Good luck and I hope something works for you. Let us know how you get on

Mine all LOVE the bath. It only took a few times to get used to it - now they will play for a bit in the tub then get clean - by the time the older two are ready to come out they are prunes.

Depends. Zach's 3.5 and at the stage where he insists he isn't dirty and doens't need a tub. When he's in he doesn't want to get out. He puts his goggles on and "swims". He also has to have it cool/cold. Noah has his moments where he screams and tries to climb out. But other times he will sit and play. Lately he's been in a hurry to get out. Both boys do better with my husband tubbing them--I tend to wash them fast and do it first. He lets them play and then washed them--he's probably right.

Elaine, that stinks! I have not experienced this with either of mine. I would try Maree's trick and see if it works.

Max likes them... ( so far )

Although Max is only five months old, he appears to love his warm baths. He kicks in the water and gigles when I dribble warm water on his belly. Like I said -- so far.. I don't know how this will change.

Re: Does your baby enjoy the bath?

Hello, my little one is 5 months and 1 week old. He loves bath time. I bought a chair at Walmart that goes in the tub and he lays back in it.. You could always try that. The chairs are in the baby section with all the baby bath stuff..

Re: Does your baby enjoy the bath?

I used to take showers with them when they got like that. For some reason, they liked the water spray and didn't fuss.

Re: Does your baby enjoy the bath?

Since it's summer, maybe putting her in the tub in her swimsuit would help? You couldn't really lather her up, but at least she'd be thoroughly rinsed, you know?

I never had to deal with Joey not liking the tub. There were times I'd swear he was part fish.

Re: Does your baby enjoy the bath?

Ryan loves the bath and shower. If he overhears anyone mention a shower, he goes running to the bathroom and starts to strip. He has been know to take 3 showers a day sometimes. It isn't worth the fight to keep him out. THe kid loves water!

Re: Does your baby enjoy the bath?

Owen loves the bath and shower and always has. I can't imagine how much of a pain it is to have a kiddo who hates it. I hope you can figure something out. Sorry I have no advice but wanted to say good luck!
