I guess.. it would depend on the kids, They were not all that durable with my oldest three.

Tessa has one, and it has held up fairly well. I will be honest though and say that I don't think she uses it very often. The discs can be kind of tricky to get in properly, and if they aren't in right they don't play right. They look fine, the only clue that they aren't right is that they won't play. Personally... I would pass.

Hmmm, I got one for Kevin, maybe I'll take it back... I wanted him to have something that is all his since he's my tv kid and thought it would work out. We have a DVD player in the car, so I wanted it to be a little different than that.... Maybe I'm not finished Christmas shopping afterall...

Dana, that is why we bought one for Tessa. I agree with Liz, I would go with a portable DVD player that is all his. Or... not sure how you feel about PSP's but Jim found one downrange (it is amazing the amount of electronics that the old unit left behind) and it plays movies and games both. The movies for it are between 12-18 a piece. It must be pretty durable since it is on it's second deployment. I have no idea what they cost though... I'm sure it's quite alot more than the video now.
