Food & Drink metabolizing into breast milk?

How long does it generally take for things you eat & drink (like caffine) to get into your breast milk?

I like to have a cup of coffee every now & then & have been really good about not drinking it...I also reallyy enjoy garlic & parmesan wings on occasion, but they are REALLY garlicky & woulkd change the staste of the milk. Now that I have had my baby (9 days old) I wouldn't mind indulging every now & then, but do not want it to effect my baby so I would just pump & dump.

Any input?

Thanks!

I'm not really sure how long it takes, but I know every time I drank anything with caffeine my kids would be grouchy and not want to sleep. As for the garlic, your breastmilk change with everything you eat, it's really a trial and error...if the garlic really affects your baby then I would hold off for a while, just try it and see.

On average, food will affect your breastmilk in about 4 - 6 hours but it can be as early as 1 hr or as long as 24. Remember though, that only a tiny fraction of what you eat actually ends up in your breastmilk and as long as you don't over indulge, most likely won't affect your infant at all.
