Maddie is really enjoying all the litle finger foods from Gerber and such. I just do't want to spend the money and would rather make them. Anyone have a recipe for Zwieback (sp) toast, or biter biscuts? Or something similar?

I'm sorry I can't help you out on that one. Check it out online. I'm sure you can find something.

It is actually from Gerber, but I called thier 1-800-4-GERBER number and requested a recipe booklet from them. I used to use just canned veggies after awhile. Kids never noticed the difference.

I have a recipe for teething crackers .. but it is for a baby older than 1 year, cause it uses honey and egg.

Preheat oven to 325
2 1/2 cups Super flour (recipe below)
1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon honey
1 beaten egg
1/2 cup milk

Mid all together. Add more milk a tablespoon at a time until the dough forms a ball. Roll thicken than other crackers. Use pizza cutter to cut into shapes. Prick air holes in each cracker with a fork. bake until VERY dry - about an hour. Cook. If crackers are not hard, return to oven for about 5 - 15 minutes!

I'll look harder for one you can use now!

oops I forgot the recipe for Super flour ...

1 tablespoon soy flour
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1 tablespoon brewer's yeast
Then top off the cup with whole wheat until it reaches the top!

Wow, of course you would have a recipe Roxanna! I am back to trying to be frugal again since they don't double coupons here!

I am certain I remember seeing a book at the library on this too. However, of course, I can't remember the name of it. Try asking a librarian. They may have an idea what kind of book to look for. I will check at my library this week when I go. I need to find something too. I need to make some snack type foods for Tyler in this same idea. He is always eating now. Too bad they don't stick to his ribs! I wish I could remember. I will look it up at the library. I know the librarian knows. I will post the name of the book here in this thread when I find out what it is. I PROMISE!

I used to make cheese fingers for my kids, Just get an unsliced loaf of bread, take the crust off,cut it into decent sized fingers the same width all the way around put them in the oven on a slow heat and let them start to dry out, turning as nessecary, when they are almost finished drying out, sprinkle grated cheese on them and let that soak into the bread.

My kids lived on them, they loved the cheesy flavour. Of course I put Marmite on them to sometimes but I have already heard your guys opinion on Marmite

Sorry Meagan it was in the 'disgusting foods' thread but you may have been moving at the time.

Marmite is a sandwhich spread. It is brown and kind of salty. We grow up literally cutting our teeth on it (see above recipe LOL) but those ppl who have heard of it in US seem to think it is disgusting (oh yeah, they call it Vegemite here in OZ and it dosen't taste exactly the same, but pretty close)
