Potty Accidents

Thread Starter
I am very frustrated. Today Caleb has pottied his pants twice, and then instead of peeing in the toilet he went on the towel next to the toilet. I am very frustrated and upset with him. He will be 5 in 2 months and he continues to have accidents. This week we have had more accidents than he did when he potty trained. He is really bad about waiting till the last minute to go to the bathroom and that is why he has been having accidents. Any way to get it through to him to go before he can not wait anymore.

He also refuses to wipe his own bottom. Does anyone have any suggestions on that?

Explain to him as soon as he feels he has to go he needs to head to the bathroom. As for the wiping, inform him that you will help but he needs to do it on his own. I would hand him the toilet paper ask him to bend forward and wipe. My son is on the short side and is more comfortable standing up to wipe....some kids don't feel comfortable letting go of the toilet especially if their little and have a fear of falling in....

Sorry you're having these problems. That can be so frustrating.

We've been talking about the probs. I wish I had an answer. Maybe try positive reinforcement again. 1 sticker, quarter, etc everytime he makes it. Give him a reward to work towards. Maybe even if he doesn't make it- make him take two away or something. I know you shouldn't punish your child for accidents according to the potty training books etc- but I think at that age and after being potty trained for so long it okay. Maybe you could give him a sticker or something everytime he wipes himself too????? Potty training is a world of joy isn't it. lol

Re: Potty Accidents

This sound sad on your part. Ya its very frustrating. First try to make him understand, don't just get angry on him. If he is busy in playing some toy, snatch it first and take him to bathroom. Else he wont go. To be on a safer side, take him to a doctor to be sure that everything is fine.
