Share your favorite parenting/motherhood quote with us!

I have mine in my signature here at BabyU. It is funny but at the same time, so true.

"I'd love to be the ideal mother, but I'm too busy raising my kids"

This isn't a quote, but I really like it!

Dear Lord, it's such a hectic day
With little time to stop and pray
For life's been anything but calm
Since You called on me to be a mom
Running errands, matching socks
Building dreams with building blocks
Cooking, cleaning, and finding shoes
And other stuff that children lose
Gitting lids on bottled bugs
Wiping tears and giving hugs
A stack of last week's mail to read
So where's the quiet time I need?
Yet when I steal a minute, Lord
Just at the sink or ironing board
To ask the blessings of Your grace
I seen then, in my small one's face
That you have blessed me
All the while
And I stop to kiss
That precious smile

There are several quotes that I like - one of my favorites is in my siggie. Here are a few more:

As a mother, my job is to take care of the possible and trust God with the impossible. - Ruth Bell Graham

"If you've never been hated by your child, you've never been a parent." -- Bette Davis

"The commonest fallacy among women is that simply having children makes one a mother - which is as absurd as believing that having a piano makes one a musician." - Sydney Harris

The phrase "working mother" is redundant. ~Jane Sellman

It's not easy being a mother. If it were easy, fathers would do it. ~From the television show The Golden Girls

If evolution really works, how come mothers only have two hands? ~Milton Berle

Any mother could perform the jobs of several air traffic controllers with ease. ~Lisa Alther

Before becoming a mother I had a hundred theories on how to bring up children.
Now I have seven children and only one theory: love them, especially when they least deserve
to be loved. - Kate Samperi

Those who say they "Sleep like a baby" haven't got one. - A new mother

Children seldom misquote you. They more often repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.

Heather, I ran across it months ago when I was looking for something for the Scrapbook I am trying to make for Tisha. Isn't it just great? I am typing it up in fancy script and printing it on some beautiful paper for Tisha's scrapbook. I'll probably make a few copies and frame them for Mother's Day gifts.

I like the funny ones, too. This one's in general about being a parent:

"Having children is like living in a Frat house -- nobody sleeps, everything's broken and there's a lot of throwing up." Ray Romano

Although, MY favorite one to say is:

"You can't scare me. I have Children. !"

Brenda, I love the prayer.
I don't know what my favorite quote on motherhood is. I will have to think about it.

I have a T-Shirt that I think is hysterical (although Haley acts offended by it). It says
"I child proof my house but they keep getting in"

Don't know who wrote/said either of these:

Truly, there is no job on the face of this earth that has as much responsibility and as much reward as that of being a parent.

A hundred years from now it will not matter what was in my bank account, the sort of house I lived in or the kind of care I drove . . . but the future may be different because I was important in the life of a child.

Re: Favorite Quote on Motherhood?

My favorite quote about motherhood is this one by Lin Yutang: "Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother." I love this quote because in college I fancied myself to be a feminist and I thought I knew all about what it meant to be a woman, especially all the injustices we face. Uh, yeah, I've decided now that I pretty much knew nothing about what it meant to be a real woman. Motherhood has given me the opportunity to appreciate the greatest right of women, to give birth and mother a child. And this quote reminds me of how far I've come, how far motherhood itself has brought me. I went from a place of constantly trying to fight the social norms associated with femininity and motherhood to completely embracing them. What's your favorite quote about motherhood/children and why?
