Oral Thrush

Thread Starter
Little Karissa has some oral thrush (2 months). Doesn't seem to be causing her any pain, but from last night to today it has spread a little more on the lips. Don't want to fork out the $ for an ER visit today. Is there an over the counter topical that I can get for her today that is baby-safe that you know of?

Go to the healthfood store. THere is some stuff you can get but I can't remember what it is called. I know it works really good....the one downfall is that it will stain her mouth purple.....

That would probably be Genetian Violet (sp?) that Liz is talking about.

Unfortunately there aren't any OTC meds for yeast that would be safe to use around her mouth. I went through a few bad bouts of thrush with my first daughter. She and I passed it back and forth for months!

We went to the clinic when we had a bout of it last year. I'm not familiar with any OTC Thush help.

Unless things have changed since I was nursing my kids, there are no OTC remedies that you can get, just prescription or herbal remedies like the Genetian Violet. I know that someone on here has used it....I think it was Shona???

I used that Gentian violet, too. Sammy had it when he was about 2 weeks old. I usd it fr just a few days and it cleared right up. I got it from Walgreens.

My doctor prescribed Genetian Violet when Emily and I had it. Like Elaine said, she and I passed it back and forth when she was an infant and nursing. It will turn her mouth and everything else purple, but it will work. I believe I got it at WalMart or just a regular pharmacy. I do remember if you get it at the pharmacy, you have to ask for it because they keep it behind the counter.

I meant to add that it's not a prescription medicine, they just keep it behind the counter for some reason.

Ally's ped actually used that on here when she had it as a baby. It worked great, but she had several stained outfits from it. NOTHING will take it out, either!

I am really very happy to have come on the right place, thank you.
