Phi Theta Kappa

I know this seems kind of silly given everything else in the world, but I'm proud of myself and wanted to share.
I just got the invitation to join the Phi Theta Kappa (Honor Society) chapter of UMUC. It's an honor society, and you have to have a good GPA to join (mine is 3.68).
I was invited to join once before (when I was attending Pierce College) but got the invitation after the deadline due to a move.
It gives me access to special scholarships and such.
Anyway, I know it's silly, but I'm happy about it and wanted to Share.

Re: Phi Theta Kappa

Heather, it is not silly at all! Good for you! You should be proud of yourself. Going back to school is no small thing, and going back and being disciplined, working hard, and doing well is something to be proud of! Join the honor society. You deserve it!

Re: Phi Theta Kappa

Heather, WTG! I know how hard you have to work to be asked to join - I was a member of the Omega Sigma chapter here at HCCS for 6 years. In fact, I was even the chapter president one year (and served as an officer 2 other years). Now I am an alumni. It's a wonderful society and they really can help you alot with scholarships and such. I encourage you to join! I don't know what your fees are (every chapter is different), but mine were $75. I didn't have the money at the time, so my dad paid for it cause he was proud of me. I'm so glad he did! It was one of the best experiences of my life!

Re: Phi Theta Kappa

It was $45 in fees. I joined, and ordered my honors stole so that I'm sure to have it in time for Graduation... I should be able to march in the Spring Graduation ceremony.

Re: Phi Theta Kappa

Heather the only thing I know about fraternitys'/sorority's is what I've seen in American movies and tv shows - ignoring Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds they seem like a wonderful body to belong to.

I think joining an organisation that not only gives you access to scholarships but also employment opportunities thru an Alumni organisation is a brilliant idea, it also gives you a peer group of people who know first hand just how hard you have worked to achieve your results.

I think you should feel extraordinarily proud of yourself, not many single Uni students manage to get the grades you are getting never mind the fact that you have achieved those results while single handedly raising 3 children in a country where you didn't even know the langauge when you arrived and you have had to worry about your husband who is out there defending the rest of us and you have had the responsibility of sending him out there knowing that you are strong enough to do on your own what a lot of people can't manage with two parents, raise happy, confident, strong children all the while keeping contact with him full of good cheer and good news no matter how you really felt.

Heatherr I congratulate and salute you.
