Commit me now - I lost my mind!

Ok, I wanted to expand my garden - really expand it from last year. I ended up spending just over $200. but I got so much!

tomatoes - 10 varities
peppers - green, yellow, red, lilac, orange, chocolate (a really dark green) and jajapeno.
cucumbers - regular and pickling
eggplant
squash - butternut, spaghetti, crookneck, zucchini
cantaloupe
onions
green beans (blue lake)
peas (sugar snap)

Yesterday, I got 16 of the 26 tomatoes planted. Rick made me some SWC's (4 yesterday and he'll make 2 more today). Gonna plant the jalapenos and the red & yellow peppers in the 4 small one. The big ones I will use for green peppers and probably the squash. I need to get at least 10 more pots! I have 4 2.5cf bags of soil and one of manure left. Gonna need more of both.

Rick and I plan on making salsa and spaghetti sauce to freeze with all the tomatoes, jalapenos, onions and cilantro. I should be able to freeze the peas and green beans as well. I got some pickling stuff to make homemade pickles, too!

I think I went a little overboard, but I can't wait to start reaping the rewards of my garden! I'm so excited about it all. This will be my largest garden ever. Now I just need to figure out where I am going to put it all in the yard! LOL!

Well, need to go plant more stuff. Bye!

I'm with you Mary, cucumber, tomatoes and lettuce are about it around here.

You can get Lilac Peppers???? I've only seen red, yellow, orange and green in the supermarket (I'm sensitive to pepper so I don't eat them) but lilac would be very pretty in recipes I use red onions to add colour (I think they are also called Spanish onions, they are a reddy purple colour and a bit sweeter than brown onions)

Oh yeah, Brenda what is an SWC?

WOW> I haven't done a garden. Maybe this year we'll try something. Although I am with MAree & Mary - We wouldn't eat 1/2 of what you planted

Hopefully the $200 you spent will result in hundreds saved in produce over the course of this years growing season.

Sounds like you are going to have a great garden! If I make it down to Houston this summer, I'm coming over for some salsa

You betcha, Heather! We'll make it a Mexican Fiesta! Maybe we can get Lisa and Janice to join us!

Most of the veggeies will be put up for use during the fall and winter. But we actually eat everything I am planting (altho I am the only one who eats eggplant). My kids love fresh fruit and veggies, so I am lucky there.
