Any thoughts on Mothers Day gifts this year?

I usually just take her to a nice expensive brunch with mimosas and hand her a spa GC, she seems to really enjoy that every year. Of course we have to discipline ourselves and save and work hard for the money for it but it pays off because she thinks it's a really special day and always tells her friends about it.

We've always just been a card and "Happy Mother's Day" family. I definitely want my mom to know how much she is appreciated but can't afford to do the gift thing and the long distance makes spending the day together difficult.

My mom's not into all the expensive fancy stuff. Depending on how she's feeling - I would like to take her out for the day. (or a day) We did it all the time when Lyssa was little - but since she's been sick and breaking her leg and her numerous hospital stays - we aven't done it and I know that's wat she misses.

Matt's mom won't get anything this year.

Last year I was called a kiss @ss because the boys and I potted her some flowers that the boys picked out.

But MY Mommy Day gift is the weekend after mothers day Matt and I are going to Cincinatti Fri - Sun!!!!!! TWO whole nights away. We're going to dinner, and the aquarium, and BASEBALL games, and to a couple bars....... I can't wait!!!

I want to spend the day being pampered with breakfast in bed, massage, new book and a lovely bath. Of course except for the massage that's what I get every year

We ring our respective mothers on Mothers Day and spend about an hour chatting to them rather than send them a card, as we live in different countries it is a little hard to get together these days, altho when we go to NZ in June/july Des is planning on spending a week with the boys helping his Mum take care of the yard and the house since his father past away a year ago this month she could really use the help. Plus we are paying for his fathers headstone which may seem like a weird gift but his Mum appreciates it.

oooo... I've got to get on the ball. I wanted to get the boys' pictures taken together, but it takes 3 weeks to get them back, so I need to get that scheduled right away.

I'm trying to think of something to do that is special to remember my Mom on mother's day. We aren't exactly close to the cemetery where she is at...so I was thinking about doing something special. I just don't know what yet.

My mom lives out of state, so she gets a card (and flowers if we can afford it). Then we call and talk to her on the phone (of course I do that several times a week anyway! LOL). Whatever we do for my mom, I do the exact same thing for Rick's mom, who lives here in town. Both are very easy to please and like anything you give them. Normally, Rick and the kids go to his mom's house fro dinner. Me? I stay home and enjoy the solitude since it's my day, too!

Rick asked me what I wanted, but since we are so broke I went with the old but much loved breakfast in bed (fried eggs over easy, hashbrowns and a ham steak). Told him to have the kids make me a card - this is easy with Ally, she makes cards for everyone! LOL! The kicker will be seeing if he can get Drew to do it! Rick usually takes the kids to the dollar store to pick out a candle or candle holder for me. I adore candles and this is cheap. You can never have too many candles!

Cheryl, i find mothers day really hard and my mom had been gone for 18 years now. i usually thumb through pictures and letters and stuff throughout the day, i do not visit her in the cemetery, i like to remember all the good times.

for me i got a coffee machine for mothers day, it came a month ago and i am super duper happy with it. love it

for the respective mothers, my step mom will get a card and flowers probably, and my mil's will get a phone call

I know what you mean Andrea and Cheryl. There is no comfort in the fact that this is supposedly my day too since I am a mom. It never seems to be a good day for me because my husband apparently lacks the ability or desire to plan in advance. I have no idea what we will do for his mom for Mother's Day. I doubt he has even thought about it.

I'm buying my mother a garbage can, LOL. I know I purchased a stainless steal can for myself and she wants one. Nonetheless it's 119.00 bucks! Since her birthday is May 7th it's a birthday/mom's day gift LOL. I will also get her a few flowers for her yard....
