Scissor skills

Thread Starter
Using scissors is a very important step for children and helps them develop fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. It can also be a scary step for parents.

Do you give your child scissors? Why or why not? If so, what kind of scissors do you give them? What kind of scissor activities do they do?

Re: Scissor skills

we are working on this with Nathan... most of the time at home I will give him his scissors (the ones that only cut paper).. I'm not sure what they use at school.

Well Kte helps herself to the scissors. She does ok cutting. We just need to work on the proper way to HOLD the scissors.

Re: Scissor skills

My older two are pros at scissors (7 & 5). Their younger brother is also a pro as he always manages to find theirs and use them. He's 2 1/2. He knows how to hold them properly and cut with them. We have those safety scissors that cut only paper as well as regular kids' scissors.
