It's official, it's Aspergers

The last year and a half or so has been a long journey for me with my son. He was misdiagnosed ADHD earlier this year entering into kindergarden. I knew he was misdiagnosed! I refused to place him on medication.

We took him for an assessment at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Austism. He was diagnosed with Aspergers last week. I am finally relieved that I can begin therapy for his deficits.

His dibels scores are the highest in his class he's reading at a second grade level and is very smart. His deficits are speech, social and occupational. I believe we are finally on the right track and not soon enough!

Glad you have a reliable and correct diagnoses with little Jimmy. Best of luck with treatments, I know Aspergers is difficult socially for those who live with it. Keep us updated on everything.

Re: It's official, it's Aspergers

Aspergers shares 90% of the same symptoms as ADD/ADHD. It's a common mistake, unfortunately since most schools just don't know enough about Aspergers, specifically (most are well equipped for ASD, just not Aspergers itself). They tested Drew for Aspergers, but his is just severe ADD. I read alot about it becasue they share so many symptoms. There are lots of great books out there with some great advice.

WTG on sticking to your guns! You know when something is wrong with your child and you did the right thing! Please let us know how things go with his treatment! Most kids with ADD/ADHD and Aspergers high very high intelligence scores - it's the developmental areas that they have rpoblems with.

Thanks everyone for your support this past week. I dont' post here alot but no matter what I like the feed back.

I have found a summer program in the Twinsburgh area 7 weeks starting in June. He will be able to work on social skills and coping skills as well.

I went in to this whole thing with the same little boy that I came out with!
