My mom divided some and I planted some years ago.

With most plants, you just need to dig them (dry). Shake off the excess dirt and gently pull them apart. Depending on the size of the root ball, you can get anywhere from 2 to 5 new plants this way.

Thanks. I just bought one and it's still in the pot, but it looks like it was root bound or too big for the pot or something. So, I think they probably need to be split before they're ever put in the ground.
