Breakfast

Hey everybody. I'm new here and want to say hello. Here's my question. I wake up very early in the morning to get ready for work and preparing breakfast is sometimes difficult. What does everyone do to make up for it? Do you skip it, make something quick, or pick something up on the way? I used to love eating eggs, but now I'm on a strict diet that prohibits them.

Re: Breakfast

Personally I skip breakfast 99% of the time. I only really do breakfast on Sundays when I tend to cook for everyone. My DH isn't much of a breakast eater either. So it's just the girls that eat and Lys isn't big on breakfast (She'll eat 2 bites of ceral.) SO really none of us really eat a good breakfast. (except the baby)

Re: Breakfast

I know the feeling. I used to eat on the go (on the way to work) or I had a stash of granola bars or fruit bars at work. Now, I don't eat all the time. When I do, I make grits with a little cheese in them or toast.

Re: Breakfast

I'm bad about breakfast too BUT I've found that when I am dieting, eating breakfast helps fight my hunger later in the day. I try to keep eggs hardboiled in the fridge (I'm big on having protein in the am) but also like the Light & Fit yogurt drinks, or a yogurt with some granola stirred in.

Re: Breakfast

I like AM protein, too, Elaine. I either fry up an egg and have a piece of toast, or have a yogurt, or cottage cheese.

Re: Breakfast

I have a box of regular instant oatmeal in my desk drawer. At 8am every single morning I have a package of oatmeal. This is easy to eat on the road as well in a cup. Between 9:30 -10 oclock I eat a fruit and nut bar the Kellogs ones, yummy. Sometimes I will subsitute a banana in replace of the fruit and nut bar but most of the time I go for nuts in the late morning for the protein.

Re: Breakfast

I always have to eat breakfast. I can skip lunch, but not breakfast.
I have cereal or a mini bagel with low fat peanut butter or cinnamon raisin toast. Sometimes I eat instant oatmeal. I also love yogurt with granola mixed in.

Re: Breakfast

I think it helps my kids and me to start the day off right when we all have a good breakfast. Some of the things I make are scrambled eggs (plain or with cheese), fried eggs, grits with cheese or tomatoes, french toast, biscuits, egg salad, bagels with cream cheese. If we are rushed or they don't want any of that, they can have cereal but have to eat fruit with it.

Re: Breakfast

Lately I either take poptarts with me to work to eat or sometimes there are rice krispie treats in the vending machine that I'll buy. I drink either water, lemonade or juice for breakfast. Every once in a while I'll skip breakfast but I try not to. On weekends I might have cereal or poptarts or strudels.

Re: Breakfast

I rarely eat breakfast, unless I wake up just starving. If I do, it's usually a pice of fruit, like a banana (or more like half a bananam the other half in Ally's cereal). I don't normally get hungry until anout 10 or so. And since I don't like most breakfast foods, I tend to go straight to lunch!

Re: Breakfast

While I was vegan, I had a hard time getting breakfast in the morning before classes because I didn't have time to take out the ingredients and put together some pancakes and I definitely could not scramble up an egg or eat a quick container of cottage cheese. So if you are always in a hurry in the morning and can't eat things like eggs, here is a good way to get some good food in the morning without having to "cook" anything. Here is what was suggested to me.

If you have a crockpot or slow cooker, or something like that. At night before you go to bed, put some oatmeal, milk (of your choice), little bit of sugar, butter, and whatever other ingredients you like to put in oatmeal (pecans and raisins for me), and cook it before you go to bed. In the morning just spoon out a bowl, warm it in the microwave and go. You won't be getting all the sugar and things in instant oatmeal and its healthier for you than sugary cereals. Not to mention, oatmeal keeps you full longer. Whenever I eat oatmeal early in the morning, I normally do not feel hungry till later that afternoon.

Hello! Welcome to BabyU, glad to have you.

In the mornings (when I had healthy habits) I would eat a Cliff Bar and drink as much water as I could. Yogurt was another alternate with a little granola or wheat germ mixed in.

Re: Breakfast

Ok, I'm relieved to hear that I'm not the only one not eating breakfast everyday. Lately, I do eat cereal though. Just a small bowl does the trick, and just to make things worth it, I try to eat the more beneficial cereals. A good source of dietary fiber for example come from LiveActive cereals like Mixed Berrry Crunch and Nut Harvest Crunch. They really do the trick in the morning. You should check it out.

Re: Breakfast

I'm a huge fan of Grapenuts Trail Mix Crunch cereal but our local grocery store has stopped carrying it. I'm much more likely to eat cereal late in the evenings than I am in the morning though.

Breakfast is important for everyone. Morning is the starting of the day and we need energy for the whole day. Breakfast provides us energy. I never skipped breakfast and i like to eat healthy snacks in my breakfast. I also like to drink fresh fruit juice in breakfast.

Breakfast is the most important meal among all the meals. Breakfast should be heavy and nutritional because it used by the body throughout the day. A heavy breakfast and light dinner is feasible. Skipping breakfast is not a healthy choice at all. Skipping breakfast may cause the obesity because our body tends to reserve more calories from previous dinner if we skip breakfast regularly.
