Wow.. so tell me...

do all school age kids develop attitudes after being in school for one year??? LOL! Alexis is in 1st and oh my gosh, that girl has developed a lovely attitude (part from me i know!! ) and it is definately something new for me. You think terrible twos and stuff is hard, but this is just as hard... I love my girl though (shes my little twin!)

Do you have advice on dealing with attitudes? What steps do you take to stop them or to keep yourself from getting an attitude back?

I have a 1st grader this year too with attitude.

I take away something that she is "into" at the moment.

My first grader doesn't have attitude so much as he has "whine" this year. He's been known to smart mouth but it is much more likely that he'll collapse on the floor crying if something doesn't go his way.
From my experience, girls have more attitude... and it just gets worse as they get older.

This is what I have been told.... I may go crazy. LOL! Guess what they say is right, you pay for what you did to your own parents.

I have been trying a number of things... grounding from things and such. I always tell her that I know that she sometimes feels mad or upset but that when she feels like that she should go to her room and cool off. I told her to feel free to scream into her pillow. And then, maybe we can talk out the situation cooler without her getting into trouble.

Ally is in 1st and has serious attitude issues! Pooe girl is like my clone! She didn't stand a chance! Mostly I give her 1 warning about it, saying she needs to change her attitutde. That used to be enough. Now I send her to her room (she hates being away from everyone). If that doesn't work (and sometimes it doesn't) I am not adverse to giving her a swat on the bottom for "reinforcement". I actually popped her mouth when she told me to be quiet! That doesn't happen much. Normally, when she is sent to her room, I get the stomping on the stairs and a slamming door. Although not so much anymore since I threatened to take the door off!

My mom tells me that girls are MUCH worse than boys. I don't know about that. Drew has serious attitude sometimes. But then again, he is a teenager!
