Legislation filed to block payment for prisoner's sex-change operation

As a judge considers forcing the state to pay for a convicted murderer's sex-change operation, Sen. Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester, has filed legislation that would bar taxpayers from footing the bill.

What do you think about that? Should the state be forced to pay for this man's gender reassignment surgery?

Good grief... No way... If he wasn't incarcerated, the govt wouldn't be responsible, why should they now because he's there?

Are we going to start paying for inmate boob jobs too? This is ridiculous....

Re: Legislation filed to block payment for prisoner's sex-change operation

When I first read this, I was so angry. Why should taxpayers pay for him to become a woman? What are his true motives for wanting to do this since he appears to have had no interest in sex reassignment before he went to jail. Also, he is in jail for killing a woman. Is his big plan to become a woman and get transfered to a women's prison so he can kill some more women? Does he think women's jail is cushier?

There are certain things that are one of the benefits of obeying the law. IMO, changing gender is one of those things. It's an expensive bunch of proceedures and treatments. If he wanted to become a woman, then he should have thought about that before he slaughtered his wife.

Is it cruel and unusual? IMO, nope. Cruel is what he did to his wife. She had rights too. Life was one of them. He took that right from her, so now he looses some of his. Tough.

Oh, HE!! NO! Not in a million years! He's a criminal. Criminal's have no rights, as far as I am concerned. Basic medical care, yes. Elective surgery, NO!

IMO, once you commit a crime and are sent to prison, you lose all your rights, since you took away the ultimate right of someone else, life. I don't think inmates should have all the luxuries they have today. The point of going to prison is to be punished, not to live a cozy life. That said, I think if this person truely wants to start transition, he/she should have thought about that before murdering someone. You would think that murdering someone could lead to prison, which means no sex-change for you. But maybe some people just don't think before they act.
