I really need to find home for the rest of these puppies. 1 friend is taking 2 of them this coming weekend and we are keeping one. But that still leaves 3 puppies I need to find homes for. Any brillant ideas?

Re: Best way to find homes for puppies
Do you have PetSmart in Texas? They do animal adoptions there. I would also look online for no kill shelters because they will work with you in helping you find homes. Lots of Humane Societies have websites where they post pictures of animals that are available for adoption. When my dog had puppies, we went this route. We found some good homes for a few puppies. I was very selective and was adament that I would not stand in front of WalMart with them in a cardboard box giving them away to just anyone. I was too afraid of mean people taking them to do awful things or of someone getting one on impulse, regretting it, and then abandoning it.

Re: Best way to find homes for puppies
After reading my post, I think I should clarify that we went through a local humane society and tried to adopt the puppies at PetSmart when they would have adoptions there, and we also had them on the website of a few humane societies and local no kill shelters. One other thing we did was post a sign at Kyle's work, and when people would call about the dogs, I would screen them before giving them the okay to come and see them. I liked doing it this way because Kyle has worked at Delta so long, he could ask around about anyone who called and find out if they were decent guys, etc. We adopted a couple of puppies this way. I also solicited anyone I knew who I thought was kind and would be good to a puppy. I placed one puppy with the physician's assistant at my mom's oncologist's office. That dog has a good life!

Here are some ideas:*List them on Craig's List
*See if there are any free ad papers in your area and list them in there
*See if there are any groups who foster animals in your area to see if they have anyone willing to foster them and find them a home for you. Most of these groups are usually pretty good about screening people to make sure the animals get good homes...at least the ones around here are.

I've never done it but you can always put posters up at local vet offices too. I'm sure people going there would be good pet owners.

We are asking a small adoption fee so we aren't able to list on Craigslist (you have to GIVE them away there), we ended up having to put an ad in the paper.- Spaggie

Re: Best way to find homes for puppies
The 2 nearest No Kill shelters are both full right now. The other 3 are well over 2 hours away, so that won't work. I did give them my name and number and they will call if they have any openings. The SPCA will take them for a fee! I never heard of that before, but the lady said it was to help with the cost of shots. Then they turn around and charge the person that adopts them the same fee. Maybe they are spiltting the cost?
I hadn't thought about PetSmart, but there is one really close to me - we get all the cat and dog food there. I'll check with them to see when their next adoption day is.

Re: Best way to find homes for puppies
I am sure the fee they charge the people who adopt the pets is to offset the cost of shots, boarding, vet care, and all that, as well as a fee to give people pause. A lot of people will take a free pet on impulse, but when they have to get out their wallet or checkbook, they stop and think about it.
