Team snacks

What do you do when it's you turn to bring the snacks? There's 17 kids on dd's baseball team. I want to make this cheap. I'm making cupcakes and bringing juice. There's always extra kids wanting a snack as well. I got confetti cupcake mix and confetti frosting for 48 cupcakes. I have a soccer snack coming up too. I usually try to go healthy, but I got everything, but the eggs for the snack for $3.

Do you try to go healthy or is cost a factor as well?

Re: Team snacks

When Drew was in soccer, we weren't allowed to bring anything like cupcakes. We went with cut-up fruit (or grapes), cheese crackers, cut-up veggies, fruit snacks, graham cracker cookies, etc and juice pouches. They really limited our options. And as the coach, I always had to have back-ups in case the parents fell thru (which happened 2 or 3 times).

Re: Team snacks

Oh! One time I was really short on cash, so I made PB&J roll-ups. Peanut butter and grape/strawberry jam on tortillas. Roll up the tortilla and then refridgerate to cool. Once cool, slice into pinwheels. Those went over really well!

Re: Team snacks

Here they are big on allergies and any allergy some kid two fields over might have. Dh said to just buy the cheapest snack we can find in prepackaged bags. I know he's going to bulk at the price. There are 17 kids on the t-ball team and all the brothers and sisters rush up before the team can get there...

Re: Team snacks

None of Tessa's teams have ever allowed things like cupcakes and such as a snack...
Whenever it was my turn to bring snack I almost always brought juice boxes and sliced oranges. Cheese and crackers were okay, trail mix etc... but cupcakes, cookies and chips were not allowed. Of course, the teams also didn't allow siblings to snack, only team members.

Re: Team snacks

Well, they've allowed candy and worse things - juice boxes without actual juice in the ingredients, etc. I don't think they'd care except dh is right about the allergies angle. Better to give a snack in a pack. Last time we gave them applesauce and raisins. That was for 8 kids though. Not 17+.

Re: Team snacks

I found cheese and crackers for $1 a pack at the Dollar General. Plus I walked there instead of driving.

Re: Team snacks

We've never been restricted on what we could or couldn't take. We've always gone the pre-packaged route, though for snacks and drinks. Gatorades are always a big hit too. For my two kids last soccer games last week, each of their coaches brought cupcakes for the kids to celebrate the end of the season. I thought it was nice.

And when we take snacks, we always let the siblings have some AFTER all the kids on the team get theirs. Then we give siblings some if we have leftovers which we usually do. I think it's a nice gesture and most parents do the same thing.
