Check out what other fees they've raised - I' ll be very surprised if they are still operating @ the end of this year.

With fees like that, American is basically looking for short-term business commuters - people who have just a carry-on. That is going to become their market, and they're going to find it will dry up quickly, I think.

I'm flying out American this morning! It was the cheapest I found but I didn't start my search early like I should have. Thank goodness the bag fee has not come in to affect yet.

Our airlines up here have talked about doing the same thing. They were all just talking about it yesterday. A lot of it has to do with the rising costs of fuel and such. Westjet no longer allows unaccompanied minors....and with Air Canada unaccompanied minors has always been around $100.

As if the rising cost of tickets (ie .. fuel) wasn't enough, now they are charging for bags as well? I don't care how cheap they are. That's just crazy! I think all the airlines are going to see a huge decrease anyway. People just don't have the money to spend and with the cost of flying going up like everything else, people are really cutting back on leisure trips. Seems to me they should be doig something to encourage more people to fly .... not find another way for them to say it's too expensive!
