This is actually a 2 part question.

What are some things that your parents did that you would never do?

What are some things that you have seen other parents do that you would never do?

something my mom did that I would never do: would have to be allow my child to cross the street! LOL It seems like an ok thing and back in the day, less people in the neighborhood as well as most of them you know. Not nowadays!

Something I've seen other parents do that I would never do: pick up my child by one arm!

I let my kids cross the street, but only if I am watching. Well, Drew can pretty much go anywhere in the neighborhood he wants - he's almost 14. But Ally knows she is not allowed and she always comes to ask when she wants to go to her friends house that is across the stree and 4 houses down.

As a punishment, my mother would not allow anyone to talk to me when I had been mouthy to her or disrespectful. It might not seem like much (and it was effective), but it made me feel like they didn't care.

What are some things that you have seen other parents do that you would never do?
It drives me nuts to see parents screaming at their kids at the top of their lungs in the middle of the store or out in public. Yeah, humiliating them will really amke them behave when they are toddlers!
Another thing is parent who pinch their kids! I just want to walk up to them and pinch THEM as hard as I can. I hate that!

There were a lot of things my parents did that I would never do - most of them pretty horrible. I would never let my children play outside all day without even checking on them like my mother did.

Something I have seen other parents do that I would never do is purchase a gun for my young child or allow an older child to go hunting alone or only with friends.

Another pet peeve of mine I would never let my child do is drive an ATV on the road. Or drive an ATV period without a helmet. I see that all the time on the back roads and I really hate it. Kids speeding like bats out of he!! driving ATVs on the road with cars and without a helmet. Thank goodness our state is about to pass a law against this sort of thing!

Looking back, I think my parents did the best they could in their situation. If there was one thing, though, I wouldn't leave my kids with a babysitter that I didn't know personally.

There are a couple of things I've seen other parents do that I would never do:
- Completely ignore a screaming child
- Let kids cross the road, apparently having not taught them that you're supposed to look both ways before you cross the street. I can't count how many times in my neighborhood kids have just run out in front of my car without so much as pausing to look

I got beat with switches and belts and promised myself and my kids that I will never do that to them.

I've seen other parents do so many things that I said I wouldn't do and the one that sticks out right now is humiliating your child, whether in public or private. That only ruins their self esteem and breaks down any trust they have in you.

I would never give Aaron conditional love but unconditional love. I am insecure and have low self-esteem due to that.

I would never tell Aaron to shut up. If I want him to hush, I find a nicer way to say it.

Pam, I can't ever remember my mom saying shut up. It was always please be quiet or hush. I wish I could say I have never said it, but most of the time I tell them to quiet down.
