Is this going to work?

I had to take Provera in April to make me have a period and it came on the 24th of April. So my period was due last week and I started taking the Provera as soon as the day my period was due has passed. I've only got a few pills left and I haven't started yet. Can you start your period while you take Provera or do you have to wait till after you take all the pills? I didn't start the first time on Provera till a week or two after taking the last pill. I don't want to keep having to rely on this medication to get me going because I don't think they will be able to pinpoint ovulation. What happens if I have to use Provera each time to get my period to show up? Rah! This is starting to bug me.

Oy... you just confused me. Is Provera not birth control? This shows how much I know about TTC methods. I'm certain that some of our members will have an answer for you though.

I know it can get annoying -- it took 4 YEARS for me to get pregnant for my daughter. Meds, surgery, procedures, you name it. Hang in there and keep your goal in mind. It helps make things a little easier.

Nope. That's Depo-Provera. Here's some info on provera....

GENERIC NAME: medroxyprogesterone acetate

BRAND NAME: Provera, Cycrin, Amen
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Medroxyprogesterone is a progestin that is derived from the naturally occurring female hormone, progesterone. Progestins and estrogens comprise the two major classes of female hormones. Medroxyprogesterone is used to treat abnormal uterine bleeding, promote menstrual cycles, and to treat symptoms of the menopause.

Re: Is this going to work?

The provera will cause you to get your period. If you want to pinpoint ovulation why not try an ovulation predictor (expensive) or ovulation test kits. If you kind of know when you're ovulating you can use the kits. You might need more than one the first month if you aren't too sure when you're ovulating but it will help ease you're mind and let you know IF you are ovulating. I had and ovulation predictor (forget the name right now). It was like a little computer thing. It was great. It told you the exact days you were likely to get pregnant and the BEST day to try out of the good days. Worked for me. But like Kim, I had a difficult road...easy conception and pregnancy, fullterm stillbirth, provera, meds, IUI......healthy baby! Then another IUI scheduled and anticipated meds, etc and we got pregnant all by ourselves and another healthy baby. You can never tell.

Re: Is this going to work?

The thing is, I don't ovulate. Getting a ovulation predictor would just be a waste of money at this point. They are trying to get me to have my period and ovulate on my own but for the past two periods I've had to use Provera. I had a period back in December, then nothing until March and then my period wasn't coming on time in April so I took Provera and it took 10 days of pills and then about 10days after the pills I had my period. Now I'm on the Provera again. Its just driving me crazy that my body just won't get it right on its own.

Re: Is this going to work?

Your journey is just beginning, your body has worked the way it has for years. It's going to take some time to spark it into doing what you're looking for. Hang in there.

Have they talked about meds to kick ovulation into gear?

Re: Is this going to work?

They said metformin would help with ovulation. I just started taking that today. Hopefully my body can get on track.
