These were sent home from school with Jonathan as a good list of activites for the summer for preschoolers and kindergarteners. Especially those who are having speech problems.
1. Cut pictures frommagazines or catalogs and have your child glue them on a piece of paper (or several pieces). Write a story using the pictures. If your child cannot write yet, let them dictate the story to you while you write the words.
2. If your child is working on a particular speech sound, focus on his or her responses to that specific sound. Say the word 5 times using your "good speech sound'. Use the words in sentences using your "good speech sound'. Use the sound in describing objects, explaining, or storytelling so the child can hear the sound being used correctly.
3. Similar to #1, but write a sentence, leaving a blank where the child can put a picture of the word you leave out. Let them say the name of the object as they place it in the blank spot.
4. Visit your local library for Story Time, if possible. The more a child hears language, the more they will be encouraged to use their language skills.
