May 30, 2008 -- A lost Indian tribe has been photographed in the Amazon - with the astounding images showing warriors painted bright orange and brandishing bows and arrows.

I find it absolutely amazing that there are still people on this earth completely isolated from the rest of the world.
AOL had a much better article on this with many more pictures but I can't figure out how to get a direct link to it for non-members.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

I read about this earlier today and was just wow'd by it...for the same reason - knowing that there are people out there that are cut off from the rest of the world. It's pretty wild to think about!

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

I have mixed feelings about it. Now they've been discovered, it won't be long until some gung ho anthropologist wants to study them. Dh has taken several classes on primative cultures and thinks they may be cannibals. IE there is no sign of agriculture like gardens, huts for drying or storing produce and no livestock enclosures. Plus apparently, bright full body painting like that is a specifically headhunter sort of thing and they attacked the plane clearly showing that they are not planning on making it a religious symbol.

Obviously, like it or not, they are going to be studied. I just think extreme care should be used when approaching these folks so the visiting anthropologist doesn't become the main course. You know universities around the world are going to be vying to see who can get there first. They won't remain untouched for long.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

There are apparently 200 of these discovered but uncontacted tribes around the world.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

They should just leave them alone. One fo the articles I read said the biggest problem they face is the encroaching "civilization". It would be nice if they left the area for these people, but I serious doubt that will happen.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

Something my anthropologist uncle pointed out ... We still have to consider the possibility that this is a hoax put on by conservationists. It's been tried before in an effort to stop encroaching civilization. What better way to protect an area of land than saying an endangered species (in this case tribe) is living there.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

That would explain the lack of agriculture or animal husbandtry.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

I can't fathom that there are people in this world that don't have electricity, or running water, or a freakin' cell phone!

Seriously though, at this point, they've been discovered, and will continue to be until they either kill whoever goes to study them, or they kill eachother to try to survive.

I don't know, we tend to not leave well enough alone.
Even endangered animals, everyone wants to go take photos of them, and search for them, but don't you think that kind of thing stresses animals out? It puts them at risk for doing abnormal things, or to be in abnormal situations.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

One of the articles I read said that it was highly unlikely that the tribe had no knowledge of the outside world, that even if they themselves had never come in contact with outsiders they had communicated with others who had. There are apparently incidents of a village making contact, catching diseases from the outsiders, then other villages from their tribe retreating deeper into the forest.

I think it's likely that the tribe knew that the plane was from the outsiders, and they were ready to fight to keep the diseases out of their village.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

IIRC a stunt was pulled quite some years ago of pictures of a "tribe" that turned out to be a hoax by a conservation agency.

I truly believe there are groups out there who have not made contact with modern civilization. I am just a bit skeptical of these particular images is all.

Re: Lost Tribe in Brazil

I think that is the one that my uncle brought up in our conversation. I think they were called the Tassaday or something like that.
