Ibuprofen

Thread Starter
I had a wisdom tooth pulled this morning that was incredibly stubborn and took some force to remove. The dentist told me to expect to be pretty sore and swollen for the next few days. They offered me prescription pain killers but because I can't stand how I feel when on them, I turned them down.
My bottle of Ibuprofen says no more than 2 pills (400 mgs) every 6 hours and not to exceed 6 pills in 24 hrs. I know that is on the cautious side so I took an 800 mg dose (I've been prescribed that much before so knew it to be safe) immediately after the procedure (6 hrs ago). The problem is, I can't remember at what intervals it is safe to take that big of a dose. It's been 6 hrs and I'm already pretty achy.

Re: Ibuprofen

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I will be able to help you but until then, have you tried calling the dentist office or even a pharmacy? Or your doctor's office even? I'm sure they could give you that info. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Re: Ibuprofen

It's about every 6 hrs. I would call your dentist and confirm with them. They should have written it down for you.

Re: Ibuprofen

The 800mg Rx they gave me says every 4-6 hours. So I think you would be safe taking more now.

Hope you feel better soon, sweetie!

Re: Ibuprofen

I was going to say the same thing. When I had foot surgery, I took 800 mg of Motrin every 4 hours. I always take 4 at a time.

Re: Ibuprofen

I was going to say the same things as Brenda. That's what my doctor in Ohio told DH when he hurt his back. 800 mg every 4-6 as needed.

Unfortunately, I can't take it anymore. I've developed an allergy to NSAIDS, and I have asthma attacks every time I take one.
