COLUMBUS, Ohio - An Ohio school board has voted to fire a science teacher accused of using a device to burn the image of a Christian cross on students' arms.

First of all, a teacher should never, ever burn a student for any reason. In my books, burning is sevre child abuse. Second, teachers should leave their religion at home especially if it includes burning people.

Re: Ohio board reviews report of teacher burning kids

He used a frequency generator. I used those when I was in the Air Force. It never in a million years occured to me to ever torture someone with it. An electrical burn is quite painful. What kind of sick mind comes up with this sort of thing? It sounds like some sick torture thing they did in Vietnam.

Why isn't he up on criminal charges? If an ordinary parent did this, they would be.

Ohh yeah.
This has been all over the news the past few days.

It's right up the road from me. Maybe 15 minutes?

All else aside, I can't imagine what he was thinking when he stuck a device that would cause a burn on a students arm.

Robyn, is there any talk of him facing criminal charges for this? If it happened in a bar, there would be.

Re: Ohio board reviews report of teacher burning kids

I haven't heard anything yet.
He's appealing the school board for some reason because they put him on suspension for having religous materials in his classroom, and he refused to remove them. He said that he wouldn't remove his Bible because it gave him inspiration and direction to get thru the day.

to each his own, but it does seem as if he was pushing his beliefs onto children.

Sorry - whether it was a "cross" or and "X" (as he says), there is no reason to burn a student! He needs to be fired and then brought up on criminal charges for child abuse. If a parent had done this to their child, you can bet your butt charges would be filed. Why should this be any different?

Re: Ohio board reviews report of teacher burning kids

You betcha! Burning students via electrical shocks is an appaulling thing to do. He could have caused serious nerve damage. The Bible thing is secondary to the branding, IMO. The Bible is a problem since he seems to be preaching from it instead lecturing from the textbook. If he just had it in his desk, who cares? But on display and teaching from it is another thing altogether. The main problem is according to his weird variety of religious beliefs: torture is okay. And that is not okay in the vast majority of mainline churches, temples and synagoges in the US.

If he had done this in his church, he'd be up on criminal charges as well.
