Surviving through teething.

So I'm completely ignorant with this situation...
What happens when the baby starts teething? Connor is already a little "violent" with me, I swear this child has got some killer gums on him already. How do you survive through the phase where they want to chomp on everything?

Re: Surviving through teething.

If he bites, take it away. Both my dds were biters. And it flippin' hurts. Bad. Your natural instincts not to be chomped will take over and he'll soon learn if he wants the goods, he has to be nice.

I'm sure you have a wide variety of teethers, chewy books, etc. My dds' OT reccommended beef jerky for my youngest. She is 18 months old. She was biting everything and everyone. I am happy to say she is no longer a biter. I wouldn't reccommend this for a baby, but it works a treat with an 18 month old. Something to keep in mind for when he's older.

Just let nature take it's course. Your natural instinct will pull that boob right out of his mouth and loudly say or yell Ouch! He'll get the picture pretty quick.

It does really hurt though.

I know how this is going to sound but.. I bopped mine on top of the head, not enough to hurt of course, but enough nso that they felt it, and then put them down and said "No! Biting hurts" After two or three times, they stopped biting. They found that if they bit, they didn't get num-num.

Re: Surviving through teething.

Emily was the same as Connor. Even before she had teeth, she could put a hurting on me just with her gums. I did what Lenora did. If Emily bit me, I would pull her off, tell her no, and leave her sitting there for a few minutes. She finally learned that if she bit me, she didn't get to nurse, and she wanted to breastfeed, so the biting stopped.

Mine were never biters (well - while they were teething - we had a few issues as they got older)
