Do your kids dress themselves?

Ally is 7 1/2 adn duringthe school year, I usually pick out her clothes - sometimes she does. This summer she informed me she was old enough to dress herself. You should see some of the things she dresses herself in! My god! I'm beginning to think she is color blind - or just plain blind. My ex-husband was color blind and he dressed better than she does on some days! I am constantly telling her to put on something that matches! LOL! I swear she just puts on the first thing she pulls out of the dresser!

Do your kids ever do this?

Re: Do your kids dress themselves?

I only let mine dress them self if we are staying home. That is the way it has always been. I pick my battles and that is one I am going to win.

My nephews are 7, they dress themselves and do a pretty darn good job!

Re: Do your kids dress themselves?

My dd has dressed herself since she was three. If she looks too funky, I make her put on something else. IE, she cannot wear panties outside her jeans. Your kid doesn't want to wear drawers and mine wants to wear several pairs at once.

Re: Do your kids dress themselves?

My 7 year old has been dressing himself since he was 5. No problems. DD is 5 and I help her get the clothes she picks out, simply because she's banned from getting clothes out of her drawers and closet by herself as she will then have all of them on her floor. But starting next year when she starts kindergarten, we'll give her the freedom to not only pick out what she wants to wear but to get them herself as well. We've started that some over the summer and she's doing well by not pulling out every piece of clothing she has. Hopefully that will continue.

Re: Do your kids dress themselves?

Yeah.... Tessa dresses herself and some of her outfits are crazy. I buy her clothes, and let her put them together however she wishes. The only exception is picture day at school. I will tell her if I think something doesn't look good, but I leave it up to her to wear or not. She gets teased sometimes for her combos, but it doesn't bother her so I don't mind.
Sammie is starting Kindergarten this fall, and I will allow her the same freedom.

Aaron has been dressing himself for probably a year. He usually does well, but sometimes I have to send him back to change. He's pretty good at matching colors. He always chooses to wear his cowboy boots with everything though. I guess if you're at home on the range, boots are the usual footwear.

No way jose!
You should see some of the stuff Austin comes up with! He gets picked on enough as it is.. he should let me pick out his clothes for a little while longer.
Yesterday he picked out a Cordell Stewart #10 Steelers jersey (black and yellow) and a pair of light blue swimming trunks that have grey great white sharks on them.

i would swear that kid is blind too.
Dylan is the same way. But he's only 4.
Yesterday he wore a pair of Camo shorts (old navy camo) and a blue and red Power Rangers tshirt and his blue croc's!
Oh well..i let Dylan stay dressed like that.
Austin............. not so much.

Re: Do your kids dress themselves?

Logan picks out his clothes himself pretty much every day.... I have taken to hiding his hockey jersies though, he would wear one every day if they caught his eye.

i figure he is five and if he looks bad, people know he did it not me.

Re: Do your kids dress themselves?

I let the kids dress themselves and if they are not color coordinated, I say something and they have to change. They get it right about half the time. LOL!

Yep, Lauren does.... most of the time, her choices are pretty good.

Ryan, no way. He's only a little over two....

Re: Do your kids dress themselves?

Yesterday Ally wanted to wear a pair of pink short that had different colored Hibiscus flowers all over them. Darling shorts! However, she wanted to wear it with a black and white striped shirt. Her reasoning? They both have white in them, so they match! Uh, don't think so! Told her ot weither find her black short or jeans short for the top, or get one of many different tank tops for the shorts (she has tank tops is every color of the rainbow!). We struggled for a while, but I finally won by telling her she was dressing like her brother!

Drew is almost 14, so the only time I pick out his clothes is for pictures or if we are going out somewhere. He could care less what he looks like - but then again, he's a boy.
