Who I Am...

My name is Peter and my wife Cathy and I are expecting twin baby girls (Lucille Antoinette and Natalia Frances) any day now.

We had a hard time concieving (nearly 4 years), so this is the culmination of a long, tough journey and the beginning of an even longer and tougher one.

Cathy is at nearly 38 weeks!! At the last ultra sound (last week) they weighed in at 6.7 and 5.8, so they appear to be good to go. I have been a nervous wreck the past week or so, but I am sure it will all work out in the end.

We live in Western North Carolina (in the Smoky Mountains).

Anyway that is the short version. I am a veteran of other online communities and I hope I like this one.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask them here.

-Peter

Thanks for the encouragement, so many people insist on instilling fear in us.

We definitely had help. Our fertility issues were "dual factor" (me and her). After months of Chlomid, three failed 3 IUI's, and one failed IV-F (no viable embryos) we finally took one last crack at an IV-F; we ended up with 3 embryos, they implanted all theee and two of them took. Talk about a radical change in fortunes.

Congratulations and Welcome to BBU!

I'm Kim - I'm Mommy to two kiddos. I understand.... It took us 4 years and many tests, treatments, meds, surgery, etc..... to finally have our daughter.

Glad you stopped in. See you around the boards!

We are in Sylva which is to the NW, pretty close to Brevard as the crow flies, but well over an hour on those snakey two-lane mountain roads.

Thank you, we love the names as well, all four are family names from both sides.

Re: Who I Am...

Hi, Peter! I have a dear, dear friend who lives in Waynesville, NC. Are you close to Haywood County?
Big for you. I understand your apprehension and nervousness and all that you have been through. My husband and I had to do fertility to have our daughter, and after I got pregnant, I was VERY happy, but I also had these feelings of, "Oh my gosh, what have we done?!" You and your wife are going to be great and you will do just fine. God knows who can and who can't handle multiples, and that is why not everone has twins or triplets!
By the way, I am Tammy a WAHM to two kids (the second one we conceived naturally--or should I say with Divine intervention!), and I live just south of Atlanta, Georgia. Welcome to Baby U!

I missed this post! I can't believe you live in Sylva. My friend Doris, who now lives in Waynesville, is from Cherokee. Grew up on the reservation. Her first husband was in charge of Unto These Hills for 25 years. When we went to visit her six years ago, we ate dinner at a little Italian restaurant in Sylva, and she attended the Methodist church in Sylva. As far as I know, her ex husband still does go there.
Both of her kids went to Smoky Mountain High School (I think that's the name of it) in Sylva.

Re: Who I Am...

Congratulations Peter and Cathy, welcome to our community, and welcome to the wonderful world of multiple parenting. My twin "baby" boys are now 16 and are over 6' tall there are several parents here with twins and we are happy to answer questions and so, of course, are the singleton parents.

People always say "Oh twins, double trouble" don't listen to them, the first few weeks are a fair bit more time consuming than having one baby but as the get older it does get easier, truely it does. For those first 6 -8 weeks tho, if anyone offers help - take it

My wife works at Haywood hospital which also where we will be having the babies.

While I have not thought about it much latley I have thought that twins was part of someone's plan. My mom had twins at 40 when she already had three children at 8, 6 and 5. I now have a new respect for both my parents.

Our biggest issue at the moment is finding daycare. I teach at WCU and plan to stay home T-Th, my wife is trying to get Fridays or Mondays off. That would leave 2 days a week. I would be with them full time over school breaks. We have a couple leads, but I sure hope it works out.

Re: Who I Am...

Finding child care for an infant on a part time basis let alone 2 is difficult. I am sure it will work out htough.

Re: Who I Am...

Congratulations. Your daughters will be the loves of your life.

After 6 years of hearing "relax, it will happen when you least expect it" my husband and I went to a fertility doctor. We found out that we both had our 'problems' and two more years were filled with 5 IUI's, 2 ectopic pregnancies, and 1 IVF, but we were blessed in the end with twin daughters who are the two most amazing human beings that I have ever known.

I know what you mean when you say that it was a tough journey. It is one not many know and only one who has been through infertility can truly understand. The journey that is ahead of you is tough, but it is also the most rewarding and it is one job that you are honored to have.
