Broken dog nail

Ok, so my dog broke her nail while digging the other day. The nail is still attached, but basically the whole nail-bed is exposed. She's fine, we kept it covered and now it's scabbed over. Does anyone have experience with this? My question is any idea how long it might take for her nail to heal/grow back?

Thanks

Re: Broken dog nail

Hi there

I know absolutely nothing about dogs but I'm getting pretty good at googling (is that a word?) I just typed "dogs+broken nail+heal" and got several hits

Actually it is probably more efficient to just give you the link to the search answer page

Hope that gives you some suggestions you can use.

Re: Broken dog nail

It should grow back in a few weeks. Keeping it from getting infected in the important part and it sounds lik eyou are already doing what you can for that. Hope she feels better soon!

Re: Broken dog nail

Thanks for the advice ladies. Luckily it is her upper nail so it doesn't effect her walking. She has been licking at it a lot, but it doesn't seem to bother her and doesn't look infected. We've spent $200 at the vet already this month (we fed the dog pork bones and it cut him coming out) so we're going to keep an eye on her at home for now.
