Has anyone started school supply shopping yet?

I hope the sales start soon. Jonathan's got a pretty long list this year, and there's only one thing on the list that I had already.

Re: School supplies

We got PJ and Emmie's with their report card last year.
I finished their shopping last week. Their list was short, however we have a supply fee that we have to send with them on the first day of school.

Re: School supplies

Yeah, I see that our Wal Marts and Target have lists already set out and are getting their Back-to-school displays up. Even in preschool, Lauren has a short list of supplies that I need to send with her. Go figure, eh?

Re: School supplies

Walgreens and Target have a couple of ads starting today. So, I'm going to run up there and pick up a few things. (markers, scissors, and glue). I love it when they put markers on sale. We use those at home, too.

Re: School supplies

i've never had to buy any before, and with K we didn't get a list of stuff besides a backback to buy

i have always loved buying school supplies although most schools here just take a fee and they supply everything, i like it that way... then everyone has the same stuff

Re: School supplies

We Homeschool, but I get my ideas for school supplies based on my experience public school teaching and what the school districts list.

I went to Walmart today but they were out of the spiral 70 page notebooks.

I bought:
the 24 count crayola crayons at 22 cents each

the 24 count pencils at .97 cents (should have gotten at Target they had them for .50 cents each)

Husky pencils at .78 cents each

8 pocket porfolios at .15 cents each (Target has them at 10 for $1.00)

Wooden 12 inch ruler .47 cents

Glue sticks 2 count package at .22 cents
4 ounce Elmers glue at .22 cents

Crayola Watercolors $1.97 each

We already have
Finger Paints
Poster Paints
Poster boards
Assorted Craft Supplies
Newprint
Art Easels and Smocks
Pocket Wall Chart
table top Pocket Chart
Math Manipulatives (including Math Pattern Blocks and Teddy bear counters)

That leaves me to get
Washable markers
Drawing Paper
Manilla Paper
Watercolor paper
Construction Paper
File folders
Sharpie Markers
Pencil Sharpeners
Modeling clay and Playdough

I can get that at the
Dollar Tree and Target later on.

I love going to the Dollar Tree to get stuff for our Calendar Math wall. I get my reward stickers there.

Re: School supplies

We didn't have to buy traditional school supplies, our list consisted of sequins, google eyes, and paper bags, kleenex, Clorox wipes, etc. The only traditional thing was glue sticks, and a composition notebook. Everything else is paid for with our supply fee.
Oh, and I have to go to their school for their supply day and buy them each a school folder, a chair sack, and a spirit shirt.

Re: School supplies

Ah, I miss just paying a supply fee. This is Olivia's first year in public school, so I have 3 long lists of supplies. I started 2 weeks ago, picking up things here and there (Walmart's prices dropped last week here) because I don't want to have to pay for it all at once and then clothes and backpacks.

Re: School supplies

I already paid for Ally's supplies thru the school. We ordered them the last week of school. It's Drew's supplies that gives me shivers. Last year his supplies were over $100 for 7th grade! Some of the things they require are strange - like check files - 2 of them at $10 each! I told the school last year that the supplies they request are WAY to expensive and thatnot everyone can afford to spend that much. I know I'm in an expensive school district, but $100 for school supplies for 1 kid is too much.

I don't have our list yet. But nothing is odd yet.

Re: School supplies

I buy stuff for my students in my class but Zach doesn't need anything! He gets a new backpack and lunch box and new uniforms. I already bought his short sleeve shirts, shorts and long pants. I just need his long sleeve shirts but they aren't out yet.
